MRS. KATIE ECK

Mrs. Katie Wedel Eck, the daughter of Jacob A. and Elisabeth Schmidt Wedel, was born in McPherson Co. near Moundridge, Kansas, on July 4, 1887. At the opening of the Cherokee Strip she came with her parents to Meno, Oklahoma.

June 17, 1905, she was baptized upon her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and accepted as a member of the New Hopedale church.

On March 24, 1907, she married Jacob B. Eck, with whom she has shared joy and sorrow for 41 years.

She passed to her reward March 23, 1948, at the age of 60 years eight months and 19 days. She leaves to mourn her loss: Her beloved husband; Mrs. Sophia Redger of Abilene, Kansas, Mrs. Adeline Maurer, Montezuma, Kansas, Lewis of Garden City, Kansas, Mrs. Melinda Allen, Lamont, Calif., Walter, Longview, Tex., and Arthur, San Pedro, Calif.

Her mother, one sister, Mrs. Susie Jantz and one infant daughter preceded her in death.

Besides the above she leaves her aged father, Jacob A. Wedel, of Meno, six sisters, Mrs. Ida Jantz, Meno, Mrs. Minnie Unruh, Meno, Mrs. Anna Koehn of Meno, rs.[sic] Lena Jantz, Ringwood, Mrs. Elizabeth Redger, Greensburg, Kans., and Mrs. Lorraine Schmidt, of Greensburg, many nephews and niece and a host of relatives and friends.

With her family she has lived at different places: Coy, Okla., 11 years; Meno, three years; Fairview, eight years; Montezuma, Kansas, eight years; Walsh, Colo., since 1942.

In 1948 she became ill and Dr. Lite diagnosed her case as cancer. She was taken to Nichols Sanitorium, Savannah, Mo. She received relief for the time being, but after a six months check-up doctors said they could do nothing for her any more. From now on medical aid was of no avail.

Her last years she was a member of the Church of God. She was true to her God until she passed to her reward.

Rev. 14, 13: "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

Friday the 26th of March, 1948, the funeral of Mrs. Eck was held in the New Hopedale church. Words of comfort were spoken by Rev. A. J. Unruh, and Rev. H. U. Schmidt.
