NEWTON & VICINITY

● Eva (Koehn) Eck, 94, formerly of Newton, died Feb. 5 at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at First Mennonite Church, Newton. James Dunn and Verney Unruh officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton. She had worked in the dietary departments of Bethel Deaconess Hospital and Bethel Home, Newton. A native of rural Fairview, Okla., she had lived in Hesston since 1984, moving from Newton. Survivors include two sons, Detrick of Newton and Paul of Elk Falls; six daughters, Margaret Miller of Durham, Marie Matz of Wichita, Malinda Guhr and Eva Lena Suderman, both of Newton, Lillian Gunnels of Goddard and Obera Janzen of Hesston; 33 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph A., died in 1949.
