JACOB H. DYCK

Jacob H. Dyck was born to John D. and Margaret (Hiebert) Dueck, on April 28, 1892 at Hillsboro, Kan.

He passed away at his home near Hesston, Kan. on Oct. 12, 1966 at the age of 74 years, five months and 14 days. He had been in ill health for over a year and a half.

He received his education and grew to manhood in the Hillsboro community. His father was a busy minister who travelled considerably, and he cheerfully made himself helpful to his father which often included commuting to and from the railroad station with horse and buggy.

He was converted in his youth at the age of 16, having given his heart and life to Christ, and upon a clear assurance and confession of faith, he was baptized by Min. Peter Baerg and received into the fellowship of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, remaining faithful to the end.

Nov. 9, 1919 he was joined in holy matrimony to Fannie E. Yost of Hesston. They shared joys and sorrows for nearly 47 years. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. Following their marriage they moved on a farm near Hesston and continued to live in this area.

He was an industrious and conscientious person who enjoyed his work. He was secretary and treasurer of the Meridian Sunday school for over 30 years and subscription clerk for the church official publications for over 40 years.

Surviving him are his beloved wife, Fannie; four sons, Harold P. and wife Elva Mae, and Clifford of Hesston, John M. and wife Alice of Moundridge, and Kenneth and wife Leona of Newton; three daughters, Neva and husband Llewellyn Schmidt of Newton, Margaret and husband Reuben Ensz of Windom, and Velma of the home; four brothers, Abe H. of Hillsboro, Pete H. of Arlington, Min. Dave H. of Livingston, Calif., and George H. of Hesston; two sisters, Margaret, Mrs. Jake Barkman of Ste. Anne, Manitoba, and Marie, Mrs. P. K. Ensz of Hillsboro; 23 grandchildren, and a great many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were one brother: John H. and one sister Anna, Mrs. Frank Wenger.

Funeral services were held in the Meridian Mennonite Church, Hesston, on Oct. 15, 1966, Min. Milferd Wenger brought opening remarks and led in prayer. Min. Harry Wenger brought the message based on Heb. 11:10; Lk. 23:28; Num. 23:10.
