ABRAM H. DYCK

The son of Heinrich and Margareta (nee Giesbrecht) Dyck, Abram H. Dyck was born on November 3,1896 in Altonau, Molotschna, in southern Russia. When he was three years his parents moved to Jelankaja in northern Russia. While attending the school of commerce in Halbstadt he met and married Margareta Niebuhr on July 25, 1921. He taught in Fuerstenland for several years. In 1924, during a week of prayer, he accepted Christ as his Saviour, was baptized and joined the Olgafelder Mennonite Brethren Church.

The Dycks moved to Canada in 1926 and lived near Waterloo, Ontario until they bought a farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1936. They joined the Virgil Church, where he was able to serve as choir leader and a Sunday school teacher for some years. Because the farm was small, he began working in a factory in 1942 and continued this work for 18 years. A stroke in 1958 and other serious illnesses forced him to retire in 1963. In June, 1969 he moved to the Tabor Manor home in St. Catharines, where his days were spent in a wheelchair. On November 10 the Lord released him and took him home.

Funeral services were held at the Virgil Church on November 12 with pastor Abe Quiring and John Klassen, a nephew of the deceased, officiating.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Margareta; three sons, Eric in Cambridge, Ontario, and Henry and Jacob in Niagara-on-the-Lake; two daughters, Alma at home and Helen (Mrs. Eldon) Lick in Oregon; a sister, (Mrs.) Gertrude Wall in St. Catharines; four sisters and one brother in Russia; nine grandchildren; and many friends.
