MARY DUERKSEN

Mary Duerksen of Winnipeg passed away Aug. 25. She was born Nov. 7, 1898 to Johann and Maria Pauls in Wiesenfeld, Russia. She accepted Jesus at age 17. On May 12, 1922 she married David K. Duerksen of Alexandertal. In 1925 they immigrated to Canada. She supported her husband in his ministries in schools and churches in Manitoba and B.C. and as pastor of Elmwood and Central MB Churches in Winnipeg. He died in 1965. She continued to fellowship in Central MB Church until 1982, when she joined Elmwood MB Church. She lived with daughters Frieda and Mary. Her health declined gradually, and she passed away peacefully at home after a month of increased suffering. She leaves a legacy of faith, love and hope to her son David; daughters Mary, Frieda and Helen Braun; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Aug. 28 in Elmwood MB Church, with Abe Klassen and A.W. Schellenberg ministering. Son David paid a tribute based on Ps. 91 and pastor Doug Enns spoke words of comfort based on her favourite verse, Deut. 33:25.
