30-Year Missionary To India, Pastor Dies at Goessel, Kan.

Goessel, Kan.—Jacob Duerksen, 89, a long-time missionary in India and pastor of several churches in the U. S., died March 19 at Goessel. Funeral services took place March 23 at the Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton.

Duerksen and his wife Christena served as missionaries to India from 1926 to 1955. After that he was a pastor at Henderson, Neb., and in California. He moved to Newton, Kan., in 1972 and to Goessel in 1977. His wife preceded him in death by only a few weeks.

Surviving are a son, Joseph Duerksen of Kansas City; two daughters, Christine (Mrs. Harris) Waltner of Mt. Lake, Minn., and Lois (Mrs. Marion) Deckert of North Newton; and eight grandchildren.
