MRS. ANNA DUERKSEN

(Mrs.) Anna Duerksen (nee Wiens) of Steinbach, Man., passed on to her heavenly home on September 18 after a long and painful illness. Born in South Russia on March I, 1897, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her Saviour in her youth and was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church. She married Gerhard Duerksen in 1919.

The Duerksens moved to Canada in 1926, settling first in Warren, Man., and then moving to Ste. Anne. In 1946 her husband died in a farm accident. Mrs. Duerksen lived the lonely life of a widow for 30 years, raising her family despite declining health. After some years in B.C., she returned to Steinbach and spent her last years in the Personal Care Home. Throughout her long illness she clung to her Saviour and the precious promises of his Word.

She leaves to mourn one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Peter) Bergman of Steinbach; four sons, Waldemar and Menno of Steinbach, Jake of Chilliwack, B.C., and George of Kamloops, B.C.; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother and five sisters; and many relatives and friends.
