Long-Time Resident At Great Bend Dies

Great Bend, Kan. — M rs. Caroline (Carrie) Dirks, 81, died Saturday morning at her home here.

She was born Jan. 17, 1880, at Moundridge, and had lived in this community since 1900. She was married to Jacob A. Dirks in 1900 at Dundee. She was a member of the Bergthal Mennonite Church.

Survivors are four sons, Chester and Dan, both of Dodge City, Harvey of Pawnee Rock, and Roy of Great Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Steve R. Anderson of Great Bend, Mrs. Olive Smith of Pawnee Rock, Mrs. Harry Smith of Great Bend, and Miss Evelyn Dirks of Newton; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jacob Ratzlaff, Great Bend. Mr. Dirks died in 1955.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Cook and Weber Funeral Home in Great Bend and at 2:30 p.m. at Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock. Rev. Victor Sawatzky officiated, with burial in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Mennonite Church fund.
