SAMUEL J. DILLER

Samuel J. Diller, son of Joseph B. born near the Mummaburg Mennonite Church, Mummasburg, Pa., where he attended Sunday school and church services. When he was seven his parents moved to Hanover, York County, Pa.

He confessed Christ and was baptized into the Hanover Mennonite Church at the age of 16. After his marriage to Maggie S. Martin on Dec. 4, 1913, he farmed for his father. Later his father sold his farms there and moved to Souderton, Pa., and we moved to Washington County, Md.

On Oct. 26, 1965 he left home, seemingly as well as usual, to work at a planing mill, where he worked occasionally. At noon he complained of not feeling well and started for home, but died suddenly from a heart attack soon after noon. It was a shock to the family and community He reached the age of 72 years, nine months and 22 days. Funeral services were held Oct. 29, 1965 at the Reiff Mennonite Church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

He had a great concern for the church. He had just been chosen again as a counselman for our group for another five years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Naomi, Mrs. Abner R. martin of Hagerstown, Md., Ruth, Mrs. Irvin S. Martin of Mt. Airy, Md., Esther, Mrs. Donald H. Martin of Hagerstown, Md.; one foster son, Harvey D. Martin of Shady Pine, Pa.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha E. Landis and Mrs. Willis A. Derstine of Souderton, Pa.; two brothers Levi I. of Hanover, Pa., and Reuben H. of Phoenix, ariz., and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral services were conducted by Richard Danner of Hanover, Pa., Amos E. martin of Shippensburg, Pa., and Amos E. Horst of Clearspring, Md. Six grandsons served as pallbearers. — The bereved Family.
