AMOS C. DILLER

Amos C. Diller was born June 21, 1871, near Bluffton, Ohio, the son of John and Elizabeth Schumacher Diller.

He attended Bluffton High School and also received education at Bluffton College, Findlay College, and Normal School at Angola, Ind. He taught school for ten years in the Bluffton vicinity.

As a young man he was baptized and became a member of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church of Bluffton and later became a member of the St. John' s Mennonite Church at Pandora. He was an active church member and taught Sunday school for many years.

On Sept. 25, 1898 he was married to Lena Schumacher. Seven children were born to this marriage. His wife died Feb. 6, 1918. On Sept. 8, 1922 he was married to Susan Hilty of Pandora, Ohio who preceded him in death on April 2, 1954.

For 65 years his occupation was that of a tile maker. He liked his work and was always a conscientious and Christian business man. In 1928 Mr. Diller with the youngest members of his family moved to Orrville, Ohio where he purchased the Orrville Tile Factory. He was able to help with the work until three years ago when his health failed.

After moving to Orrville he transferred his church membership to the Salem Mennonite Church, Dalton, Ohio, where he remained a faithful member until his death.

He loved music, and singing the many songs he knew was another way of expressing his faith in God. He used his singing ability to serve the Lord and for many years was a chorister in church and Sunday school. He also sang in various choruses and quartets and his latest participation was in the former Orrville Swiss Quartet. His special hobby was that of making many recordings of Gospel songs.

Mr. Diller's long life was blessed with exceptionally good health until five years ago. The last two years were spent almost entirely in bed. He appreciated deeply the devoted nursing care provided by his daughter Jennie, R. N.

He passed away Saturday evening, May 28 at his home in Orrville at the age of 88 years, 11 months and seven days.

Surviving him are six children, Orlo of Chatsworth, Ill., Edison of Pandora, Ray and Lester of Orrville, Edna (Mrs. Alert Badertsher) of Dalton and Jennie of Orrville; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Noah of Upper Sandusky; two sisters, Lena (Mrs. Menno Schumacher) and Miss Bertha Diller of Pandora. Preceding him in death in addition to both wives were one daughter, Bessie (Mrs. Albert Tschiegg), two brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
