J. H. Dickman

What the life of J. H. Dickman has meant for Mountain Lake, Minn. and its surrounding territory was vividly expressed at the Bethel church on Sunday afternoon, May 22, when the sad duty of burying the last remains of this dear citizen of ours on the local cemetery had to be exercised. Thousands of people from neighboring counties spent the afternoon in Mountain Lake to show their sympathy in the affair.

J. H. Dickman was born in a village of South Russia in the year 1874. As a two-year-old child he accompanied his parents to America in 1876. They settled at Mountain Lake and "J. H." attended the country school. In the year 1893 he became the member of the Bethel church, and two years later he married Miss Elizabeth Klein. this union ceased through the death of his wife in the year 1904, leaving him with two sons and one daughter to mourn that loss. Of these children only Arthur is surviving the father today. In his younger years Mr. Dickman has assisted the late John A. Janzen in the store as well as in the post office and later Mr. Janzen saw in him the talent of filling a position in the Bank of Mt. Lake; in this capacity he has been busy the rest of his life. On Jan. 18, 1905 Mr. Dickman won a life companion in Miss Kathrina Janzen. Three more children were added to the family in this union. In his business career Mr. Dickman has always manifested a firm determination; he was a born leader and many came to him for advice always finding him a source of help. Besides his position as cashier of the First State Bank, he was County Commissioner for a number of terms in succession, the secretary of the Board of Education, the President of the Mennonite Aid Society, and secretary-treasurer of the Tropical Holding Co. which lately has developed wonderful returns. — The deceased reached an age of 53 years, 1 month and 7 days and is survived by his widow, two daughters and two sons. — Mt.
