VIVIAN DOROTHY DICK

Funeral services for Vivian Dorothy Dick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Dick of Munich. N. Dak., who died in the General hospital of Devils Lake, N. Dak., on April 23, 1949, were held April 27, 1949, at 1:15 in the home and 2 p. m in the Salem Mennonite church at Munich.

Miss Dick was born Dec. 10, 1923, in Harve [sic Havre], Mont. Two years later she moved with her parents to Munich, N. Dak., where she lived until her early death.

At the age of five she became afflicted with sugar diabetes. She started school at the age of 11 and graduated from grade school and high school within eight years. On Sept. 23, 1940, she was baptized and became a member of the Salem Mennonite church at Munich.

In the fall of 1943 she entered the Bethany Bible School of Munich, and graduated in two years. Miss Dick wished to learn more about the Lord's Word, and so in the fall of 1945 left for the Grace Bible Institute of Omaha, Neb., where she completed the General Bible course and graduated in the spring of 1947.

Dorothy was a very active Christian worker. Even though her diabetic condition hindered her in some of the work she wished to do, she was always willing and ready to serve where she was needed. Upon graduating from the Grace Bible Institute, she came home and taught Daily Vacation Bible School in her home community. She stayed at home until spring, at which time she left for the Children's Home in Fargo, N. Dak. She worked there for one month, but due to ill health was unable to stay any longer.

Beginning in the fall of 1948, she taught at the Seivert Township school of Calio, N. Dak., until her death. ,

Miss Dick taught school on Thursday, April 22, and came home with her mother to help serve at a luncheon prepared in the church for the Freeman college choir. While getting ready she suddenly became very ill, losing consciousness in about an hour. She was taken to the General hospital in Devils Lake, where she passed away 35 hours later without ever regaining consciousness. Her death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

Music for the funeral ceremonies was rendered in the home by a male quartet and a ladies quartet. A short message was given by Rev. G. W. Schroeder of Munich. In the church a ladies sextet, two male quartets and a solo voice rendered music. Short messages were given by Rev. H. F. Ortman of Munich, Rev. Arthur Ortman of Warroad, Minn., and Rev. George Hoffman of Langdon, N. Dak. Two numbers were sung at the cemetery by a male quartet.

Pallbearers were Miss Dick's six cousins: John Fast of Mt. Lake, Minn., Nick Fast of Warroad, Minn., Leverne Fast, Lewis, Leonard, and Clarence Dick, all of Munich, N. Dak.

She leaves to mourn her early departure at the age of 25 years, four months 13 days: Her mother, Mrs. Annie Dick of Munich, N. Dak.; two brothers Leverne and Leslie of Munich; two sisters, Salome, who is Mrs. Bennie Heppner of Hannah, N. Dak., and Gwendolyn, a student nurse at the Bethel Deaconess hospital of Newton, Kansas; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, three nephews, two nieces, and a host of relatives and friends.
