IRIS LOUISE DICK

Iris was born on January 14, 1955 in Calgary, the daughter of John and Margaret Dick. At the age of seven she first accepted Jesus as her Saviour. In 1972 she followed in the obedience of baptism and joined the Coaldale (Alta.) Mennonite Brethren Church. The family is comforted to know that just a short time before her passing on May 12, she made a new commitment to the Lord, which gave her much joy.

At the age of 15 Iris was stricken with a severe form of epilepsy. At 18, when medication proved inadequate, she underwent surgery. After a brief period of optimism, the seizures resumed, thus cancelling out her ambitions for a normal life. She was able to attend one semester at Bethany Bible Institute and although school work was hard for her, she enjoyed the contacts with the youth. Her departure was very sudden and unexpected on the morning of her younger sister's twelfth birthday. When she did not rise in the morning, the family realized her spirit had departed to rise in another world. At a funeral service in the Coaldale Church, pastor Rudy Heidebrecht spoke comforting words based on John 10:27-30 and Psalm 23. Bruno Toews also spoke briefly on the theme, "God Loves You."

She leaves to mourn her parents, John and Margaret Dick; two brothers, Robert and his wife, Magdalene, of Winnipeg, and Danny and sister Marcia at home; one nephew; one grandmother; many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
