• Miss Louise [sic Louisie] A. Deckert, 63, sister of Harvey Deckert of Newton, died April 6 at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, Kan. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Ransom, where the funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Garman Wedel. Miss Deckert was a registered nurse and nurse anesthetist. Beginning in 1953 she served as anesthetist in several hospitals in the Ransom area. From 1954 to 1963 she was superintendent of the Gristell [sic Grisell] Memorial hospital. She had been ill since early in 1971. Survivors include one sister and nine brothers.

LOUISIE ANN DECKERT

Louisie Anna Deckert, daughter of Peter J. and Susie A. Ratzlaff Deckert, was born Jan. 14, 1909 at Pawnee Rock, Kan. and died April 6, 1972. Her parents preceded her in death.

She was baptized upon confession of faith June 12, 1927 by Rev. J. B. Schmidt of the Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock. In October of 1950 her church membership was tranferred [sic] to the Ransom First Mennonite church, where she loved to worship and faithfully served.

Louisie started her nursing career at the Mennonite School of Nursing, La Junta, Colo., from which she graduated in 1940. She practiced her profession in several states including Colorado, California, and Puerto Rico before coming to Ransom in June 1950.

She entered Minneapolis General School of Anesthesiology in March 1952, completed the 18-month course and returned to Ransom as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in November 1953. She accepted the superintendency of Grisell Memorial Hospital in January 1954, serving the community in this capacity for slightly more than eight years and providing anesthesia service to two, sometimes three, hospital besides Ransom. She won the regard and appreciation of a large rural constituency.

Her request to be relieved of responsibilities of hospital management was granted in March 1963. She continued as full time staff nurse at Ransom besides administering anesthetics at the various hospitals. Her illness in early 1971 compelled her to give up her loved work.

She helped plan and witnessed the building of a new Grisell Memorial Nursing Home and a new Grisell Memorial Hospital in the time of her service here.

Her motherly concern for the family was felt by each of us as she unselfishly and loving was there in our times of need. Her love and faith in her Lord as her personal Saviour, and the strength she received from meditation and claiming the precious promises within the Word of God as her very own, shone through her daily walk, enabling her to rejoice and be found faithful to the end.

She is survived by one sister and nine brothers: Mrs. John (Dina) Klassen, Inman, Kan; Lyndon, Burdett, Kan.; Erbun, Lacrosse, Kan.; Otho and Virgie, Larned, Kan.; Ivan and Josephine, Kano, Nigeria; Arien and Ruth, La Habra, Calif; Harvey and Ruth, Newton, Kan.; Adam and Helen, Pawnee Rock, Kan; Bennie and Ruth, Pawnee Rock.

The family suggests memorials to the Grisell Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, Ransom.
