Gerhard L. Deckert, son of Ludwig and Susanna Jantz Deckert, was born at Marion, S. D. where he spent his early years on the farm. After an illness of eight weeks, of which approximately six weeks were spent in the Glendive, Mont., Community Hospital, he died on Feb. 12, 1967.

At the age of 19 he was baptized upon confession of his faith and received as a member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church at Marion.

On Nov. 23, 1905, he was married to Katherine Unruh. To this union were born eight children, of which three sons preceded him in death. On Feb. 18, 1938, his wife Katherine also went to be with the Lord.

In the fall of 1910 they moved to Montana and homesteaded near Richey, where they were engaged in farming until 1943. Upon their arrival they joined the newly organized Bethlehem Mennonite Church where he served on the church board almost continually from 1915 to 1947. He was also active in civic affairs.

On Dec. 2, 1947, he was married to Miss Anna Fast of Atlanta, Ga., where he then assisted her as co-director of Child Evangelism Fellowship of the East District.

He remained a faithful member of the First Mennonite Church of Glendive, Mont. until his death.

He leaves to mourn his wife Anna of Glendive; two daughters, Hulda, Mrs. Henry Senner, and Doris, Mrs. Bernard Goosen; four sons, Alvin, Joe and Edward, all of Richey, and Marlin of Glendive; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Peter K. Tieszen of Sidney; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church in Glendive with Rev. A. C. Siebert and Rev. Kent Swift officiating.
