LUDWIG C. DECKER

Our dear husband and father, Ludwig C. Decker, son of John and Elizabeth Koehn Decker, was born in McPherson county, Kansas on Oct. 17, 1887. He passed away rather suddenly but peacefully on Oct. 31, 1953, at 3:00 a.m. at his home in Moundridge at the age of 66 years and two weeks.

He was baptized on his confession of faith at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church on May 30, 1909, by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff.

He was united in mariage [sic] to Mary Wedel on Jan. 26, 1910. Together they shared joy and sorrow for 43 years. This union was blessed with four children and eleven grandchildren.

Thirty-six years were spent in farming near Galva, Kansas. In 1946 he retired and moved to Moundridge, Kansas where they lived until the time of his death.

He enjoyed good health until 1951 when his health began to fail. Medical care was sought but brought no relief. A year ago last March he was taken to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn. where his illness was diagnosed as incurable.

Father was helpless for nearly two years but in all he bore his affliction patiently and without complaint. He was always appreciative of the daily care given him. He enjoyed visitors, and also deeply appreciated the Sunday School class which frequently met at the home when he was no longer able to attend church services.

He was concerned about the spiritual welfare of his family. Throughout his illness he became very tender-hearted, prayerful, and penitent. It is comforting to know that he departed this life at peace with his Saviour.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, our mother; four children, Clayton and Roland of Newton, Sadie (Mrs. Melvin Jantz) of Galva, and Erma (Mrs. Leonard Juhnke) of Sedgwick; two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; eleven grandchildren; four sisters; six brothers; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the West Zion Mennonite church Monday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m., the pastor, Rev. Harris Waltner, officiating.
