YOUNG MAN FROM C P S CAMP LOSES LIFE WHILE SEARCHING FOR LOST PLANE

The Pikeview Peace News of Colorado Springs, Colo., in its issue of Jan. 23 gives the following report of the death of Denton Darrow of Cascade Locks, ore., who lost his life while assisting in the search of a plane lost at sea:

Denton Darrow, a 22 year old Methodist lad from C. P. S. Camp No. 21, Cascade Locks, Oregon, paid with his life while braving the sea in a search for a lost Navy plane and its crew near Waldport, Oregon. Darrow was drowned when a large backwashing wave apparently injured him and then threw him into the ocean.

Though Denton was a good swimmer, he made no effort to swim, leading those nearby to suppose he had been hurt. Coast guardsmen attempted at once to rescue Darrow but the sea carried him out beyond any help. His body was never recovered.

With his companions, Darrow was helping the Coast Guard search for a Navy plane and its crew which had been lost off the Oregon coast. it fell to Darrow and several others to search an especially treacherous outcropping of rock and the accident occurred while he was making his way along the rocks.

Denton Darrow is the first C. P. S. man to die for his country while on active duty engaged in "Work of National Importance", though other C. P. S. men have died from illnesses suffered in camp.
