THOMAS F. CORNELSON

Thomas F. Cornelson was born on December 29, 1898 at Marion, Kansas. In 1907 he came to Canada with his parents; they homesteaded at Main Centre, Sask. During a revival meeting in 1910 he received the Lord and that year was baptized and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church.

He and Margaret Klein were married in 1922, and they began farming near Main Centre. In 1927 they moved to Herbert and began a mail delivery service. Later he worked for the J. K. Wiebe garage and for the Peters' grocery store. For the last 26 of his working years he was a grain buyer for Patterson Grain Company. Active in the community, he served on the town council for 13 years and as mayor for 14 years.

In his home church he was an usher for several years, and a willing auctioneer for the ladies' aid. The Cornelsons celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1972. During retirement his health began to fail and the Lord called him home on June 23. Pastor Jake Pauls led a funeral service on June 26 in the Herbert church.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Margaret; two daughters, Evelyne (Mrs. Ed) Peters of Haney, B.C. and Bernice (Mrs. Grant) J ering of Calgary; one son, Clarence, of Regina, Sask.; two sisters, Anna (Mrs. Ted) Krukowskie and Martha (Mrs. John) Neufeld; four brothers, John, Jake and Walter of Herbert and Abram of Brantford, Ont.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many friends.
