PAUL G. CLAASSEN

Paul G. Claassen, 89, of Beatrice, Neb., died Dec. 8, 2006, at Beatrice Community Hospital. He was born in Beatrice and lived in the Beatrice area most of his life. He was a graduate of Beatrice High School.

He married Ruby M. Schonewise on May 30, 1941, in Beatrice. They farmed west of Beatrice until moving into Beatrice in 1976.

He was a member of Beatrice Mennonite Church and had served on numerous committees of the church. He was a former member of the Mennonite Hospital board, Beatrice Community Hospital board, Beatrice Public School board, Homestead Village board, Regency Retirement board, Farm Bureau, Southeast Nebraska COOP board and a former member and past president of the DHIA. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, needlepoint, traveling and volunteer work.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; four sons, John D. and his wife, Carol, Alan P. and his wife, Janet, Rob and his wife, Rosie, all of Beatrice, and Nathan and his wife, Cheryl, of Lincoln; a daughter, Rhoda Frasier and her husband, Robert, of Abilene, Kan.; a sister, Dorothy Orendorff of Flannigan, Ill.; a brother, Donald of Beatrice; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Waldo Claassen.

Memorial services were held at Beatrice Mennonite Church. Burial was at the Mennonite Cemetery of rural Beatrice.
