— A number from Newton drove out to the Emmaus church at Whitewater last week for the funeral of Grandmother Justina Claassen. Grandmother Claassen was well along in years, just below 90, and was one of the oldest pioneers in the Whitewater settlement. She was born at Gruken, Germany on July 10, 1853. In 1881 she was privileged to return to her old home in Europe, and again in 1891 she made another trip to see her father who was then 91 years old. There was a large attendance at the funeral at Whitewater. Rev. J. C. Kaufman and Rev. Ted Roth officiated.
