FORMER RESIDENT OF RUSSIA AND MEXICO DIES AT HILLSBORO

Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services were held at the Mennonite Brethren church here for Abraham J. Claassen, 70, resident of Hillsboro since 1929 who died Feb. 11. Rev. Waldo Hiebert and Rev. Victor Becker of Wichita officiated.

Born in Stavorapol, South Russia, Mr. Claassen was married to Anna Peters in Russia. In 1925 the family emigrated to Old Mexico, joining the El Trebel settlement of 26 families near Durango. Within a few years most of the families moved away, the Claassens coming to Kansas.
