text of obituary:

MRS. CLARA CHEW

Mrs. Clara Chew, daughter of John and Elizabeth Bartel Nickel, was born in Washita County, Okla. on June 20, 1915, and departed from this life on Dec. 27, 1955, attaining the age of 40 years, six months and seven days.

On May 24, 1931, upon the confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her own personal Savior, she was baptized by Rev. Jacob Jantzen and received into the membership of the Herold Mennonite Church. On Dec.21, 1947 she united with the Wickline Methodist Church in Midwest City, Okla. She was a member of this church when she passed away.

She was united in holy matrimony with Robert Chew on June 22, 1943. Their home was blessed with two children, Carrol Sue and Katherine Ann.

In February of 1953 she underwent surgery to remove a cancer from her body. After this operation she felt good and was able to do her own work and visit her friends and loved ones until this spring, when she again became seriously ill. From this illness she never recovered. Her life slowly ebbed away and on the evening of Dec. 27, with a smile on her face, she left her loved ones for eternity's home.

Even though we sorrow at the parting we rejoice that she is now free from all her suffering, and that her final hours in this life were also free from suffering. Although we cannot understand why, we trust Him "who doeth all things well."

One brother, Herbert, preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her departure: her husband, Robert Chew of Oklahoma City; two children, Carrol Sue and Katherine Ann; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nickel of Clinton, Okla.; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Heidebrecht of Weatherford, Okla., Mrs. Lena Brainard of Newton, Kansas, Johanna Nickle [sic Nickel] and Tillie Nickel of Oklahoma City; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Heidebrecht and Roy Brainard; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Fontella Nickel; and a host of other relatives and friends.
