Widow of Former Hesston Dean Called by Death

Lancaster, Pa. — Mrs. Amelia Neff Charles, 79, widow of a former science instructor and dean at Hesston College in Kansas, died Jan. 7 at the Norristown State Hospital where she had been a patient for five years.

Mrs. Charles' husband, J. D. Charles, taught at Hesston college from 1909 until his death in 1923. He also served as dean from 1918 until 1923. The J. D. Charles Hall of Science was named in his memory.

Surviving Mrs. Charles are three sons, D. Irvin of Lancaster, John M. of Landisville, and H. Stanley of Millersville; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Doerr of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Katie Hess of Millersville.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at a Millersville funeral home, with J. Herbert Fisher officiating. She was a member of the Millersville Mennonite Church.
