GEORGE HAROLD CHAPPLE

George Harold Chapple was born on May 17, 1904 at the family farm near Newton, Kan. he died Sept. 21, 1973 at Bethel Hospital in Newton. He was the son of Florence Marshall and Francis Chapple.

In his youth he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Brethren Church in Newton. Later in life he was accepted as a member of the Pennsylvania Mennonite Church near Zimmerdale, Kan., now the Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston.

On June 6, 1934 he married Anna Sommerfeld at Newton. They started married life on a farm one mile from the family farm, but one year later moved back to the family homestead, where he lived the rest of his life. He was a stock and grain farmer until a year ago when his son took over the farm.

Born to George and Anna were three children; Mrs. Carrol (Verna) Harder of Peabody, kan., Mrs. Delbert (Hazel) Wiebe of Whitewater, Kan., and James of Newton, Kan. There are also two sons-in-law, Carroll Harder and Delbert Wiebe, and a daughter-in-law, Geneve Chapple. He also leaves 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Daisy McCart and Mrs. June McCart, both of Nerwton, Mrs. Lucy Kamm of Halstead, and Mrs. Alice Winsky of Moundridge. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Nora Chapple, Newton; and two brothers, Francis of Halstead and William of Newton.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 24 at the Whitestone Church in charge of Jerry Weaver and Earl Buckwalter. Burial was made in Halstead Cemetery.
