MRS. FANNIE CHAPMAN

Mrs. Fannie Chapman (nee Baumgartner), a former member of the Mennonite church, died in an Upland, Calif. Nursing Home on Feb. 14 at the age of 75 years.

A native of Pandora, Ohio and an Upland resident for 11 years, Mrs. Chapman went to China in 1919 to serve as a missionary for the Christian Missionary Alliance, continuing until 1948 when she retired.

In 1943 she married William C. Chapman in Chungking, the war-time capital of Free China. Rev. Chapman was also a missionary and together they endured many hardships. Later they came to California, making Upland their home. Rev. Chapman died of a throat cancer. Mrs. Chapman was also a cancer sufferer. Prior to going to China, she served eight years at the Chicago Hebrew Mission.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Habegger and Mrs. Dan Dettweiler, and one brother, John Baumgartner, all of Upland.

Funeral services were conducted in the Mennonite church of Upland with Rev. W. G. Stayton, pastor of the Missionary Alliance Church of Pomona, and Rev. Paul Goering in charge.

Interment was made in Bellvue [sic Bellevue] Cemetery.
