Two College Students Killed in Crash On Indiana Highway

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services were held at the College Mennonite Church on Sept. 27 for Linda J. Byler, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen L. Byler of rural New Paris who died in a highway accident east of Nappanee on Sept. 24.

Also killed in the accident was Geo. M. Harvey II, 20, of Syracuse, a senior at Ball State University, Muncie. Miss Byler was a sophomore at Purdue University, and had accompanied Harvey to this area to spend the weekend at home.

Witnesses said the light car driven by Harvey passed a truck and three Wa-Nee School buses on US-6, and then went out of control as he returned to the right lane of traffic, swerving into the path of an oncoming truck. One of the school busses then collided with an oncoming car. A passenger in the bus and three persons in the car were injured, none seriously.

Miss Byler, a member of the College Church, had just completed 10 years in 4-H and received state recognition last summer for her work in the county swine club. Besides her parents she leaves a sister, Tracy Ann, 4; her grandmother, Mrs. Thomas L. Byler of Elkhart; and step-grandmother, Mrs. Joseph Garber of Lowpoint, Ill.
