WALTER O. BURKHOLDER

Walter O. Burkholder, son of the late Deacon Samuel M. and Mary E. (Rhodes) Burkholder, was born Nov. 20, 1875, near Dale Enterprise, Va., departed this life at the Rockingham Memorial hospital at Harrisonburg, Va. on Friday night, April 29, at 11:30, reaching the age of 79 years.

He had been in declining health for the past 18 months, and a patient in the local hospital on several occasions. His condition became serious two weeks ago.

He was a prominent resident and well-known retired farmer of his community. He spent his entire life on the Burkholder home place in the Dale Enterprise community, the same farm where he was born.

Mr. Burkholder possessed a kind and friendly disposition, and was respected and admired by all who knew him. He united with the Mennonite church as a young man and remained faithful throughout his lifetime, being a regular attendent [sic] as long as his health permitted.

On Feb. 1, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Belle Fulk who mourns his passing along with three children, Mrs. Seth (Hazel) Lapp of Nottingham, Pa., Warren S. Burkholder, who farms the home place, and Mrs. David (Vivian) Coffman of Harrisonburg, Route 1. He also leaves one brother Ellis Burkholder of Dale Enterprise, one sister, Mrs. John (Ada) Glick of Bridgewater, nine grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who also mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by a son in infancy, and also a grandchild in infancy, one brother, Aldine of Texas, and one sister, Mrs. Simeon (Lillie) Brenneman of Elida, Ohio, who preceded him by one month.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, May 2, from the home at 2:00 o’clock, with Rev. Harold G. Eshleman in charge, and at 2:30 in Weavers Mennonite church in charge of Rev. Oliver M. Keener assisted by Bishop Daniel W. Lehman. Congregational singing was directed by Rev. Mahlon L. Blosser.

He was laid to rest in the Weavers Mennonite church cemetery where his parents and grandparents are buried as well as his son and grandchild.
