Mother of Two Fatally Hurt in Virginia

MRS. JAMES BURKHOLDER AND HUSBAND STRUCK BY CAR NEAR THEIR HOME

Denbigh, Va. — A largely attended funeral took place at the Warwick River Mennonite church near her [sic] Thursday, March 31, when services were held for Mrs. Esther Smith Burkholder, young mother who lost her life when struck down by a car.

She and her husband, James Burkholder, were walking along the road near their home when the tragedy occurred. Mrs. Burkholder died instantly, and her husband received facial injuries and other hurts.

He was taken to the Riverside hospital, but was able to leave the hospital to attend the funeral. A number of relatives from Elida, Ohio came for the services.

Survivors in addition to the husband and father include two daughters, Wanda and Joyce, both of the home.
