Stroke of Lightning Fatal to Fifty-One Year Old Ohio Farmer

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CYRUS BURKHOLDER HELD AT EBENEZER CHURCH

Pandora, Ohio, May 13. — Cyrus Lee Burkholder, 51, farmer and buyer of stock, was killed instantly by a bolt of lightning while driving his tractor home from the field Thursday night at 10:30 o'clock.

After the lightning struck, the tractor went through two fences and circles coming to a halt near the barn.

The bolt struck Mr. Burkholder directly on top of his head, singeing his hair, burning his chest and the one side of his body. The heavy rain extinguished the flame of his burning clothes.

Mr. Burkholder was born in Richland township, Allen county, September 7, 1891, the son of David H. and Lydia Augsburger Burkholder. His mother is living. He was married to Estella Hilty, of this place, December 22, 1917.

His wife survives with two sons, Martin, with the U. S. armed forces at Fort Sill, Okla., and Kent, at home.

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon in the Ebenezer Mennonite church, Rev. A. C. Schultz, pastor, officiating. — Pandora Times.
