Kansas Girl Killed

Hutchinson, Kan. — Eight-year-old Michelle Kay Burgan was struck and killed by a car while walking to school here the morning of Sept. 14.

Driver of the car was Mrs. Karen S. Whited, who was taking two of her children, Keni, 14, and Dana, 16, to Central Christian High School. Mrs. Whited said she saw the girl along the right side of the road and swung to the left when, without warning, Michelle turned and ran into her path.

Michelle was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Burgan, who moved from Moundridge to Hutchinson four years ago. A third grader at Union Valley School, she attended Sunday school at the First Mennonite Church here. The funeral was conducted at the church Friday morning, followed by burial at the Eden Cemetery near Moundridge.

Survivors other than the parents include a brother, Michael, and a sister, Sandra, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burgan of Hutchinson and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Krehbiel of McPherson; and great-grandmother, Mrs. John J. Goering of Moundridge.
