— Funeral services for Melvern Buller, 17 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Buller living east of Newton, were held Sunday afternoon at the Walton high school auditorium. Melvern passed away at the Halstead Hospital Thursday morning, Sept. 17, after having been in poor health for many months. Scarlet fever, of which he was ill last winter, brought along complications which finally resulted in his death. Melvern was a grandson of Rev. Peter Buller of Goessel. He is survived by his deeply bereaved parents and five brothers and sisters.

Melvern J. Buller

Melvern J. Buller was born June 13, 1925, in Harvey county, Kansas, and passed away at the Halstead Hospital, Halstead, Kansas, on September 17, after reaching the age of 17 years, 3 months and 4 days. Melver became sick soon after the funeral of his sister Adella. The doctor pronounced his sickness scarlet fever. After fully recovering and going back to school for three weeks, he became sick again. Flue and streptococcus infection prevented his full recovery. He finished his eleenth [sic] year in high school and then helpd [sic] with the spring work at home.

On June 7, 1942, Melvern was baptized, upon his confession of faith, by Rev. Gerhard Friesen, and was taken into the fellowship of the Walton Mennonite Church.

It was just before harvest that the parents noticed that his health was rapidly failing. After consulting several doctors, it was found that he was suffering from an incurable blood disease. This caused him to suffer severely for the last week or ten days. Melvern was much interested in activities on the farm, which he always performed conscientiously. Although he fas [sic] hoping and looking forward to the time when he could go home with his health regained, he was always willing to go the way his Creator and Master had planned for him. He never complained about his suffering. His cheerful disposition which won him many friends will always be missed by the family.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Buller and the following brothers and sisters: Elva, Lu Ella, Erby, Orland and Larry, all of the home. He was the grandson of Rev. and Mrs. Peter Buller of Goessel and Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Pankratz of Canton.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 20, with a brief service at the home, where Rev. Ronald von Riesen was in charge. Public services were held in the Walton high school auditorium with Rev. von Riesen and Rev. P. P. Buller officiating. An octet from the Walton church sang several appropriate songs.

Pall bearers were: Delvin Dean Bahr, Harry Friesen, Ray Schmidt, Johnny Siemens, George Koehn and Tony Di Stio.

Interment took place in the Goessel cemetery. Rev. P. P. Buller was in charge of the graveside service.
