ELIAS BUCHER

Elias Bucher was born at Bluffton, Ohio on Sept. 20, 1872, the son of John and Regina Bucher. He had four brothers and three sisters, all of whom preceded him in death.

He came to Missouri in 1896 and was married to Clara Basinger, daughter of Adam and Anna Basinger, at the Bethel Mennonite Church on Dec. 16, 1897. In less than two months they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

Eli and Clara Bucher lived on a farm about a mile from Latham, Mo. until the time of his departure. To this union were born five daughters and two sons. One daughter, Edith Bucher, preceded him in death. Those living are his wife Clara; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Warkentin of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Fannie Senior of California, Mo., Mrs. Ella Adams of Gaylord, Kan., and Mrs. Anna Gracy of Denver; two sons, Delbert Bucher of St. Louis, Mo., and Elbert Bucher of Wood River, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He accepted the Lord and was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ in the Ebenezer Mennonite Church of Bluffton, Ohio as a young man. He became a member of the Bethel Church upon coming to Missouri, remaining a faithful member until his departure.

He was blessed with a long life of 96 years, one month and 10 days. He was called to be with Jesus in glory on Wednesday evening, Oct. 30, 1968.

The funeral service was held Nov. 2 at Bethel Mennonite Church, Fortuna, Mo. with the pastor Rev. Abraham Friesen officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
