Retired Bluffton Prof. Dies in Goshen

Goshen, Ind.—A retired Bluffton (Ohio) College English professor died April 16 in Goshen General Hospital of complications following hip surgery.

Naomi Brenneman, 94, who lived at Greencroft Retirement Community, began teaching English at Bluffton in 1918. She became professor of English in 1925 and remained at that position until her retirement in 1961.

She was then named professor of English emerita. She was chairman of the department of humanities for 43 years where she was active on the curriculum and library committees for over 25 years.

She received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in 1915 and a master's degree in English from the University of Chicago in 1921. She did further graduate work at UC and at Cornell University.

She was a member of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen, the American Association of University Women and the Phalo Literary Club of Goshen.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Brenneman of Goshen; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 19 at Reith-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, with Marvin Engbrecht officiating.
