ABRAHAM J. BRANDT

Abraham J. Brandt of Reedley, Calif., son of Jacob and Katharina Buller Brandt, born in a box car at Topeka, Kansas on Sept. 23, 1874, while his parents were en route from Russia to their new home near Newton, Kansas.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, Goessel, Kansas by Rev. Jacob Buller in 1894.

He entered holy wedlock with Anna Fleming [sic Flaming] in 1896. To this union were born five children of whom only Anna and Jacob survive. This union of 10 years was broken when mother passed away in 1906. Six months later father married Helen Fleming [sic Flaming], a sister to his first wife. To this union was born one child, Helen.

In 1913 the family moved to Idaho and seven years later to Reedley, where they made their permanent home. He joined the First Mennonite church at Reedley in 1924 and was a faithful active member till his death.

Father was engaged in farming and carpenter work. He was exact and neat in all his work. This was also demonstrated in the way he kept his house and yard. He reached the age of 79 years, seven months and one day, having been a widower since Oct. 17, 1950.

Those who survive his departure are: three children, Anna, Mrs. Jacob H. Friesen of Reedley, Jacob of Upland, Helen, Mrs. Leslie Clements of San Jose; three brothers and three sisters, Henry J. and Mrs. Anna Fleming, Goessel, Kansas, Jacob J. and Mrs. Susie Goertz, Gotebo, Okla., Mrs. Katie Reimer, Ewert, Wash., and John, Globe, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. — The Family.
