MARIA BORN

Funeral services for the late (Mrs.) Maria Born were conducted in the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church on February 6. "Blessed be ... the God of all comfort, who comforteth us in all our tribulation," (2 Cor. 1:3,4) were the words of invocation.

Rev. J. J. Siemens, basing his message on "These died in faith; (Rev. 11:13), stressed that a prerequisite to "dying in faith" is the faith unto salvation and the faith which enables us to live for Christ. Rev. D. J. Pankratz enlarged upon a comfort in sorrow from the account of Lazarus' death in John 11. Friends came to comfort Mary and Martha; through rationalizing they sought to comfort themselves, but found real consolation in Christ when Martha said, "Yea, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ" (v.27).

Maria Born (nee Berg) was born on August 27, 1873, in Lichtenau, South Russia. In 1896 she married Franz Born and God blessed them with three sons and six daughters. She was predeceased by her husband, two sons, two daughters and a son-in-law. To date, one son has been reported missing and two daughters are still residing in Russia. On Feb. 2, 1968, she passed to be with her Lord reaching the age of 94 years, 5 months and 5 days. Having tenderly cared for their aged mother, and now left to mourn her departure, are her daughters Maria and Margaret of Coaldale; Mrs. Anna Langemann, her half-sister; seven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
