ELIZABETH BORG

Elizabeth Borg (nee Unruh) was born in the Crimea, in 1876. She was the last survivor of 10 children, At the age of 19 she accepted Christ through the ministry of her uncle, Peter Unruh, and in 1895 she joined the M B Church at Orloff. In 1897 she was married to Wilhelm Hamm, who died in 1902, leaving her with three children. After a widowhood of ten years she married Cornelius Borg and they settled in Tiege, where they joined the Alliance Church. During this time they lost their oldest son, reported missing in the revolution following WWI.

In 1926 the family moved to Canada and lived in various places in Ontario, finally settling in Kitchener and were members of the M B Church. Her husband died in 1955 and her oldest daughter (Mrs. Peter Schmidt) in 1970. The last 10 years of her life were spent in the United Mennonite Home for the Aged in Vineland, where she received loving care and treatment until her death.

She died on November 25, 1972, reaching the age of 96 years. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one g.g. grandson. Funeral services were held in the Kitchener M.B. Church with F.C. Peters in charge.
