Michigan Bishop Was Widely Known

M. E. BONTRAGER OF CENTERVILLE DISTRICT PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY

Centerville, Mich. — Funeral services held at the Deacon Sam Bontrager home here on June 19 for Bishop M. E. Bontrager were attended by around 800 relatives and friends, many of whom came from other states. Bishop Bontrager, who died suddenly of a heart attack on June 16, was especially well-known in this part of Michigan and in northern Indiana. He was 78 years old.

Officiating at the final services were Bishop John A. Yoder of Weatherford, Okla., Pre. Dan Beachy of Indiana, and Bishop Wm. Hochstetler of the home district.

Bishop Bontrager had traveled extensively, and the bird picture cards which he made were well-known to Amish children wherever he went. he is survived by six sons and five daughters. An only sister, Mrs. Anna Yoder, 84, came here form Thomas, Okla., for the funeral.
