BISHOP, 77, CALLED BY DEATH IN ATWATER, CALIF.

Winton. Calif. — Funeral services were held at the Winton Mennonite church on Saturday, June 11, for Bishop J. P. Bontrager, 77, who died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Atwater on June 8.

Bishop Bontrager was born in Fairfield county, Ohio and spent his early years at West Liberty, Ohio, but had resided in California for many years. Last year he was elected moderator of the newly formed South Pacific Mennonite Conference.

He is survived by his invalid wife and five daughters: a sister, Mrs. Viola Kauffman of West Liberty: and two brothers, A. C. Bontrager of West Liberty and Charles Bontrager of Ft. Recovery, Ohio.
