— Funeral services were held Saturday forenoon at Volkland Chapel in Hutchinson for Peter H. Boese, 81, pioneer Mennonite immigrant and a resident of Hutchinson the past 32 years. He died May 29 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital there after being ill two years. He was born July 4, 1876, on a ship en route to the United States, and was a retired carpenter. Survivors include four sons, five daughters, two sisters and one brother. A sister, Mrs. H. C. Wedel, resided at Goessel.

PETER H. BOESE

Peter H. Boese, son of Heinrich and Maria Rempel Boese, was born July 21, 1876, on the high seas while the parents were en route to America.

He was raised near Inman, Kan. where he also attended school. He was baptized June 4, 1897, by Elder Dietrich Gaeddert and joined the Hoffnungsau Church. He was a thresher at that time.

In 1902 he was joined in marriage to Sarah Klaassen of Mt. Lake, Minn. The ceremony was performed in the Bergfelder Church there by Elder Heinrich Quiring. In 1907 we moved to Beaver County, Okla. and joined the Friedensfeld Church where we were charter members.

In 1926 we moved to Hutchinson, Kan. where he was a carpenter by trade until his health failed. He entered the hospital May 24 and passed away there May 29 at 9:00 a.m. at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Surviving are his widow, Sarah; nine children, who were all present at the funeral except a son Ben from California; 31 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren two sisters and one brother.

He was laid to rest in the Buhler Municipal Cemetery on May 31. His favorite song was “Abide With Me.”
