Jacob J. Boese

Jacob J. Boese of Winnipeg passed away Feb. 12. He was born July 28, 1905 to Jacob and Agatha Boese in Alexandrovsk, Ekaterinaslav, Russia. His father was a school teacher in the Old Colony and Molotschna. He spent 5 years in Lichtenau school, 4 years in high school and 2 years in teacher training. The family immigrated to Canada in August, 1924, settling near Winkler, Man. In 1927 he married Olga Nightingale. They farmed near Arnaud, Man. and Sperling, Man. In 1950 they moved to Elm Creek, Man. , and in 1962 to Poplar Point, Man. They retired to Winnipeg in 1975, and for the last several years lived at Donwood Manor. He enjoyed socializing and being with people and had a love for music, playing the violin and for a number of years participating in a men's choir. His love and trust in Christ were demonstrated in a particular way during his last 8 months in hospital. He is mourned by his wife; daughters Lil and Helen; sons Arthur, Harry, John, Dave, Victor, Richard and Ken; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and 3 brothers. The funeral was Feb. 16 in Central MB Church, Winnipeg, with Abe Quiring and Gerhard Friesen ministering.
