SARAH MIERAU BOEHR

Sarah Mierau Boehr was born at Hendersn, Neb. on Sept. 3, 1895, the third of ten children born to Abraham and Sarah Janzen Mierau.

In 1903, when she was eight, her parents moved to Langham, Sask. where they homesteaded. Mother, however, stayed in Nebraska with her grandmother, Sarah Janzen. When she was 11 her father came back to take her to be with the family in Canada. Here, after some homesickness, she was happy to be with a large family living on a farm on the prairies.

She and her sister Tena joined the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church, being baptized in the Saskatchewan River near Langham by Elder Peter Schultz.

Coming back to Nebraska for a visit with her grandparents in 1914 when she was 19 years of age, she met Bernhard (Ben) Boehr. On June 8, 1915 they were married at her parents farm at Langham, Sask. Living now at Henderson, she joined the Bethesda church in 1916. In 1976 mother and father celebrated their 670th wedding anniversary. Mother wore her original wedding dress on this happy occasion.

Mother enjoyed the farm, meeting the needs of her family and participating in church activities such as the Sunday school, mission society work and singing in the melody group. Even after leaving the farm in 1958,she continued her gardening and church activities.

Early in September of 1976 she became ill with cancer. After an operation and several stays in hospitals, she died on Jan. 25, 1977, at the age of 81.

Funeral services were held at the Bethesda Mennonite Church on Jan. 27, with pastors Waldo Kaufman and Ben Sawatzky officiating.

She leaves to mourn her husband; six children, Elmer and Esther Boehr and Donald and Laura Boehr of the Henderson area, Melvin and Kay Boehr of Blair, Neb., Bernhard Jr. and Jean Boehr of Middlesex, N. J., Sarah and Herman Regier of Grant, Neb. and Rachel and Harry Hiebner of Henderson; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Tena Mierau Krahn of Langham, Sask.
