18-YEAR-OLD AMISH YOUTH DROWNS IN LANCASTER COUNTY POND

Ephrata, Pa. — Funeral services for Samuel K. Blank, 18-year-old Amish youth who accidentally drowned in a pond, were held July 14 in the Gordonville community. An estimated 800 friends and relatives attended the services, which were conducted by Bishop Aaron H. Click and Jacob S. King. Hymns were read by Joseph B. Blank.

The young man, son of David R. and Lizzie Blank, had gone swimming in a pond at the Gid Riehl farm near Springville with several companions. He went under the water unnoticed by the others, and it is thought he might have been seized by cramps. The body was recovered several hours later in 12 feet of water.
