Aged Kidron, Ohio Resident Died

Orrville, Ohio. — Funeral services for John J. Bixler, 81-year-old retired farmer and businessman of the Kidron community, were held at the Kidron Mennonite church Saturday, May 2. He died April 30 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Llewellyn Badertscher.

Mr. Bixler was a lifelong resident of the Sonnenberg-Kidron community and a member of the Kidron church since his youth. His last employment was at the Kidron Body company.

Surviving are two daughters, three sons, 18 grandchildren, and a brother Jacob of Dalton.

JOHN J. BIXLER

John J. Bixler was born on February 7, 1872, on a farm east of Kidron, Ohio, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Llewellyn Badertscher of R. D. 1, Dalton on Thursday morning, April 30, 1953, after a long illness.

He was the son of John C. and Marie (Sommer) Bixler, and reached the age of 81 years, two months and 23 days. He spent his entire life in this community and as a young man joined the Mennonite Church, to which he was true throughout his life.

On January 1, 1901 he was married to Sarah Oberly and to this union four children were born: Florence and Luella, who died in infancy; Alvin J., who resides at Sugar Creek, Ohio; and Verna, Mrs. Llewellyn [sic Lewellyn] Badertscher of Kidron, who cared devotedly for her father during the long months of his final Illness.

His first wife died on August 4, 1909. He married Eliza Nussbaum on November 7, 1912. Eight children were born to this couple: Leonard, who passed away on August 13, 1944; George, of Kidron; Lester of Orrville, R.D.; Lillian, Mrs. Ira Sommer of Dalton, R.D.; John Jr., who died on April 18, 1934, and three children who died in infancy. Preceding him also were his second wife, who died on February 23, 1925, and two brothers and two sisters. Those who survive him include 18 grandchildren and one brother, Jacob J. Bixler of Dalton R. D. 1.

Funeral services were held on May 2 from the Ira Sommer residence and the Kidron Mennonite church. Officiating ministers were Reuben Hofstetter, Isaac Zuercher, and Allen Bixler. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.
