● Funeral services for Mrs. Solomon C. Birkle, 56, were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church, with Dr. Albert Epp and Rev. Peter W. Goering of Lehigh officiating. Mrs. Birkle died Saturday at the home due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The former Doris Helen Kasper, she was born at Lehigh and had lived in Newton since 1954. She was employed by Excel Industries, Hesston, and was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Lehigh. Surviving are her husband, of the home; three sons, Vernon of Newton, Thomas of Oklahoma city, and John of Hesston; one sister, Mrs. Ellen Winter of Newton; two brothers, Ralph Kasper of Canton and Wallace Kasper of Newton; and 10 grandchildren.
