— Funeral services for Miss Helen Bestvater, 82, were conducted Monday afternoon at the Miller Funeral Home in Goessel, with Rev. Charles Burchardt and Rev. J. E. Entz officiating. Miss Bestvater died Friday, Oct. 20, at the Bethesda Home in Goessel where she had resided since Sept. 15. Formerly she lived on Route 1, Newton. She was a native of South Russia and came to the United States in 1893 with her parents, who settled in Highland Township. Surviving are three brothers, Abe Bestvater of Route 2, Canton, and Henry and John Bestvater of Route 1, Newton.

Bequeaths $10,000 For Foreign Missions

Newton, Kan. — The Board of Missions of the General Conference Mennonite Church has received a bequest of $10,252 from the estate of the late Helen Bestvater of Newton, it was been announced by Wm. L. Friesen, conference treasurer. The money is designated for the foreign mission program.

Born in Henrikow, South Russia, in 1878, Miss Bestvater came to the Newton area in 1893. She resided on a farm near Newton with a brother and three sisters.

After some years of failing health, she entered the Bethel Home for Aged here one month before her death, which occurred in October 1961. Three brothers survive her.
