Father of Mission Secretary Dies

Elkhart, Ind. — J. D. Graber represented the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities at the funeral of Frank Bennett, who died July 8 at Cumberland, Md. Mr. Bennett was the father of H. Ernest Bennett, executive secretary of the Board.

FRANK BENNETT

Frank Bennett of Cumberland, Md. died July 8, 1968, aged 77 years. He was born Nov. 3, 180, son of Alonza and Annie (Potts) Bennett of Clearville, Pa.

Mr. Bennett was the founder of the Bennett Transfer and Storage company and the Bennett Gas and Electric Company, both located in Cumberland. He also had business activities in the Florida areas of Tampa, Plant City and Brandon until recent years. He was a member of t he Mennonite Church and was active in the growth of the Cumberland Mennonite Church which was recently moved to LaVale, Md.

He was married to Theoda Mae Collins of Artemas, Pa. on Oct. 8, 1913. She survives with two sons, H. Ernest of Elkhart, Ind. and Frank A. of Cumberland, three daughters, Mrs. Amos C. (Hazel) Baer of Hagertown, Md., Mrs. Sanford (Theresa) Miller of Cumberland, and Mrs. Isaac J. (Lorraine) Metzler of Brandon, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel of Holidaysburg, Pa.; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of Bedford, Pa.

Private services for the family were conducted at 9:30 a.m. on July 11 at the LaVale Mennonite Church by Rev. Charles Shetler of Schellsburg, Pa. and Rev. Curtis Godshall, pastor of the LaVale Church. A public memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Community Church, Cumberland. Recently dedicated, this community church was a result of the inspiration and encouragement of Mr. Bennett together with Rev. George Baughman of Cumberland, now associate pastor of the church who gave a touching eulogy of his friendship with Mr. Bennett. Also participating in this service were Rev. Chester Helmick of Lincoln, Neb., J. D. Graber and Ezra C. Bender representing the Mennonite Board of Missions, Rev. Raymond King, present pastor of Grace Community, and Rev. Charles Shetler, who officiated.

Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, in the Garden of the Last Supper.
