Bishop of Lancaster County Church Dies

HEART ATTACK FATAL TO GEORGE W. BEILER WHILE DRIVING TRUCK

Lancaster, Pa. — George W. Beiler of the Ronks community, bishop of the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the wheel of a pick-up truck Jan. 23. He was 74.

A large number of relatives and friends attended the viewing and also the funeral services, held Jan. 27 at the Weavertown church.

Bishop Beiler was stricken while driving the truck over the railroad bridge at Gordonville, the truck scraping the side of the bridge and coming to a stop. Death was due to a coronary occlusion.

Well-known and influential throughout this area, Bishop Beiler was ordained to the ministry in 1927 and to the office of bishop only last year. He leaves his wife, the former Barbara Glick Beiler, six children, six step-children, and a large number of grandchildren.
