CHILD SUFFOCATED IN STRAW STACK
Altona, Man. — An unusual accident at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. George Beer of the Pearce district on March 10 brought death to their 10-year-old daughter, Florence Ruth, and a narrow escape from the same fate for a 12-year-old son.
The two children were playing in a straw stack which had been tunneled by livestock when it collapsed, possibly due to the weight of snow on the top. Frantic efforts to get to the children resulted in the boy being found first, but the daughter had already succumbed when reached.
