DEATH TAKES WELL-KNOWN AMERICAN HISTORIAN

A NAME known to nearly every American school child is that of Charles A. Beard, author of standard history textbooks used the country over. Mr. Beard, dean of American historians, passed away at a New Haven, Conn. hospital on Sept 1, age 73.

The noted scholar was a long time professor of history and political science at Columbia University. However, he did not confine his activities to the classroom and the study, but was often in the public eye due to his stand on issues of the day.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary, also a noted historian, and a son and daughter.
