Helen Margaret Bauer

Helen Margaret Bauer was born Aug. 13, 1935 to Peter and Margaret Schmidt in La Glace, Alta. She attended elementary school in Meadowville, Alta. and high school in Sexsmith, Alta. She accepted the Lord in her teens and was baptized shortly after. She worked in the Treasury Branch in Calgary, where she met her husband. She attended MB Bible College 1961-62, then returned to Calgary and worked at the Royal Bank. She married Henry Bauer in Highland MB Church June 22, 1963. They lived in Edmonton until her passing. In Lendrum MB Church she taught Sunday school, was active in the ladies' aid group, served in the diaconate with Harry for 8 years and was church treasurer for 1 year. She was on the executive of Christian Women's Club for several years. She worked at Logos Bookstore in Lendrum. More recently, she was treasurer of Global Village Crafts and of Mennonite Mutual Relief Insurance Co. She was an excellent cook and won awards for her baking at the Klondike Days Exhibition. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, petite point, crochet, gardening, cycling, golf, cross country skiing and travel. While golfing Aug. 9, 1988, she suffered a stroke. She was in a coma and then was partially paralyzed and had very limited speech. It was evident that her faith remained strong by her response to prayer and music. Predeceased by her father in 1967 and mother in 1988, she is mourned by her husband; daughter Arlene Garvan; son Jim; 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
